Wednesday Origami: Jumping Frog 🐸

This Wednesday we're folding a jumping frog! Follow the illustrated 22-step Muse & Co guide, from the first crease to a frog that can hop. Children and adults are welcome, and no origami experience is needed. What we'll practice: - Read valley-fold and mountain-fold symbols. - Make crisp, symmetrical creases and shape the frog's front and back legs. - Fold the springy body, turn your frog over, and see how far it can jump. - Help a neighbor with a tricky fold - we're in this together! Paper is provided. You may also bring your own origami, wrapping, or decorative paper. Open the Jumping Frog folding guide under Community Resources to follow along or practice at home. Wednesday, October 21, 5:00-6:00 PM at Muse & Co, 311 Hay St, Fayetteville. Free and open to the public. RSVP to save a seat, or walk in. Drinks are available for purchase.

Before you fold: symbols & helpful habits
Valley fold
Fold toward yourself, like closing a book. The guide marks this crease with a mint dashed line.
Mountain fold
Fold away from yourself. The guide’s legend shows an orange line and an upward arrow.
Turn over / rotate
Turn over changes which side faces you. Rotate turns the paper on the table, keeping the same side up.
Crease, then unfold
Press the fold, then open it again. You are making a guide line for a later fold.

Keep your folds symmetrical and crisp. When a step works for you, look around and ask whether someone would like a hand with it. If you’re stuck, look for someone a little further along and ask how they did it. We’re learning together.

All 22 steps at a glance
  1. Valley fold the square in half horizontally, then unfold.

  2. Valley fold the paper in half vertically. Keep this fold closed.

  3. Valley fold the rectangle in half horizontally again, then unfold.

  4. Fold the bottom right edge to the horizontal centerline, then unfold.

  5. Do the same fold on the opposite side, then unfold.

  6. Flip the paper to its other side.

  7. Fold the bottom edge to the horizontal centerline, then unfold.

  8. Turn the paper over to the previous side.

  9. Push the left and right sides inward while folding the bottom up to meet the horizontal centerline.

  10. Fold the top flaps of the triangle down to form the front legs.

  11. Rotate the paper 180 degrees on the table.

  12. Fold the bottom edge up to the horizontal line.

  13. Lift the legs out of the way, then fold the left and right edges inward to the vertical centerline.

  14. Fold the bottom edge up to meet the frog's front legs.

  15. Fold the left and right edges of the top flap down to the bottom edge, then unfold.

  16. Unfold the top flap from step 14.

  17. Lift the bottom flaps and push the bottom edge up to meet the front legs, letting the bottom flaps move outward.

  18. Fold the left and right flaps down.

  19. Fold the inner edges of the bottom flaps to the crease lines to form the back legs.

  20. Fold up the bottom section along the line where the legs meet.

  21. Fold the top flap in half from top to bottom.

  22. Turn the model over and ease the back legs out of their stretched position. Your frog is finished!
